Hurricane Charley Roof Construction Project
June 23, 2005 Update
Yesterday morning we received the first of
many deliveries of tile for the building, one pallet of Kerelastic liquid,
one pallet of Kerabond mortar dry mix and 1,600 square feet of walkway tile.
All material is stored under the building.
West Coast has removed the connecting stair between the lower and upper
equipment decks and has taken delivery of the scaffolding that will be built
up to the underside of the elevator tower for soffit replacement. There will
be a stairway attached. West Coast is working on the North side of 1232 on
the lower roof, however it has been difficult with all the rain we're
getting early afternoon. Yesterday it poured from 11:15 to 12:30, moved east
and then drifted back to the coast. We're supposed to have 40% chance
through the weekend into next week. The soffit install will commence early
next week.
RLJ is grinding the 9th and 8th floors. A serious attempt was made to water
scarify the floors, however the residue turned into concrete paste and
splattered everywhere so this process was terminated. Hilti will be on site
this coming Tuesday at 8 AM to demonstrate a new piece of equipment for
grinding the floors. If it works out, RLJ will probably invest in a piece of
equipment. The rains yesterday washed all the concrete dust from the
building.
A crew is working on the 36 - 35 risers on concrete demolition. There aren't
too many surprises on these deck - similar to what was discovered on 132 -
mainly bar running on the surface. With the demand high by both contractors
for the mast climbers, my inspections of the lanais will take place during
the lunch hour as we do not want to hold anyone up in their work.
If Barbara can get me an email address for 1231, I can talk to them about
upper level shutter removal. All exterior mounted window shutters have to be
removed prior to installation of the new soffit, so there is continuity in
the finish materials.
Photo 4 shows materials and tools left by Mabry. Tom B. and I have talked
about the roofing contractor leaving power tools and boxes of screws, etc.
in the penthouses. I spoke to Tim Waters about this and let him know the
penthouses belong to individual owners and are off limits to the workers. If
we find tools in those units, we will take possession.
This question is for Scott Otey - I'm requesting you have additional
supervision on the project as there are times I have questions and Tim is at
another job and I don't speak Spanish. Who is running the job in the field
and how available is that person to give me daily progress reports and rain
outs?
